EP #05 First Read Discussion with Chantelle Neufeld - Paper CFP0105

Episode 005 — A Theory of Mind: The Interface Between Field and Application
Jim introduces Paper 01-05, Toward a Theory of Mind in APHS, and makes an important clarification up front: APHS doesn't require this theory of mind to function, but having one makes the field easier to work with in practice. Chantelle, reading the paper fresh that same morning, brings her own hypnotherapy background to the conversation, recognizing the NLP filters model as a close cousin. Together, they explore Jim's layered view of the mind: the conscious mind as the narrative-maker and direction-setter, the other-than-conscious as the self-organizing whole (subconscious patterns, somatic knowing, the witnessing observer, values and moral compass), and why these aren't separate parts so much as simultaneous levels of one system. The episode ends on a central tension: the conscious mind's tendency to force rather than guide, and why learning to work with the whole system, rather than commanding it, is where real change lives.
